Comicon

ChurchGoing
Well that was fun. I nabbed a bunch of comics - mostly horror/zombie/ghost/pseudo-Victorian stuff all on the cheap;* and I finally met up with a coterie of LJers, including (but not limited to) storms_eye, lithera, and rawsocket. I also spied a couple of people sort of staring, and I heard one of them whisper while walking away, "Yeah, that's wicked_wish from LiveJournal, I think." This was definitely the weirdest thing that happened all weekend.

In other news, moriarty6 got to meet "Tycho and Gabe," from Penny Arcade; who bestowed upon him the nickname of "Dreamcast Guy" (due to his t-shirt emblazoned with that logo). After their panel on web comics, they signed stuff for him - and lo, he was a happy fanboy. It was extremely cute.

Now ... ah, now. Now I'm going to sit down with this fat stack of sig pages from Subterranean and sign myself silly while watching a mindless trashy entertainment** and waiting for my husband to return from coffee with mecamind. And tomorrow: I write.

* Yesterday I showed up sort of bumming around the place, with my hair in a bun, no make-up, and in a bulky jacket; but today I tarted up a tiny bit and had a much easier time haggling. Honestly. Geek men. I'd be offended or something, if it hadn't worked so damned well.
** Doom.

It was great to meet you and Jym....
...Even if Jym and I wound up gamer-geeking for a bit.

That was tarted up? Yikes are geek guys easy to roll or what! Bat some pretty eyelashes and that's it I guess.

I hope you find more fun everyday things to do here. It really is an amazing place. I know the shock of a sudden transition and an alien environment. I've lived in DC, Texas, Wisconsin, Michigan, California and other places. I didn't plan on winding up here, but I'm glad I did. Hopefully you'll feel the same at some point.

Oh yeah....
I forgot about the "Charisma" tee shirt. I never really appreciated the power of a +1 tee-shirt before.

You mean there's more?
Ye gads, I cannot believe there is more to this "web" beyond the safe walls of LJ.... :-)

Re: You mean there's more?
Safe walls? With all the melodrama and ruffled feathers I see on LJ, I've always thought of LJ as the Hell's Angels sector of internet territories.

It sounds like you're settling in well and meeting up with some cool people... I'm glad that your 'new' life seems to be falling into place.

"Yeah, that's wicked_wish from LiveJournal, I think." - Lj Stalkers - they're everywhere... LOL that is so wierd....

hee hee hee - you said "your husband" - I can remember when I was first married and got a little giggley thrill from saying "my husband". Most of the time it was just as easy to say Lars... but it wasn't nearly as fun.

Geek guys are easy. ;-) When I went to Comic-Con a few years ago, I kept being asked if I was a booth model. "No," I'd say. "I'm a brainy type--copyeditor."

It was funny to watch their eyes widen. :-)

I got my first LiveJournal recognition last night at a poetry slam. Very..... interesting.

Sadly, things haven't changed much from the Eighties, when I started doing comics conventions. Tart up even slightly, and the geekmales fall over.

Well shoot. You two should come to PAX '06 and potentially drink beers with the front and I. Close enough to chill with the PA folk, close enough for that!

Massively off topic, but have you seen this?
http://trustmetrics.relativestate.net/top100.txt

It says you are the 100th most popular person on LJ.

That stat is based on this silly thing:
cmpriest's LiveJournal popularity rating is 7.40/10.
cmpriest is more popular than 99.9976% of all LiveJournal users.
cmpriest is more popular than 99.45% of their mutual friends.

How popular are you?

Silly, I know. But I just thought I'd share.
