Ghost Hunters Do it for Seance!
Lately I've had a couple of people ask if I'd create an LJ strictly for Spain the Cat pictures. I thought about it for a minute, and I almost said "sure!" ... then I remembered that there's an LJ feed for my Flickr stream. This is, in effect, an LJ that is approximately 80% kitty pictures. The remaining 20% is mostly cheesy friend portraits, local scenery, and sometimes vacation or travel pictures.

You can find it here: [info]wicked_flickr.* I sometimes poke through the comments and respond; but sometimes I forget, so don't take it personal if I don't reply to messages left there.

Peril status: High

And also, I'd like to thank the anonymous donor of the ridiculous new icon attached to this post. Although I don't do much ghost hunting, I believe that the record will reflect I'm a complete sucker for silly puns.

* So called because onceuponatime this LJ was called "wicked_wish."

Lolcat Spain for the win! Because that's one of the best shark-kitty poses I've seen in a while.

I, for one, enjoy the kittypics interspersed with writey stuff and gothy stuff and humor stuff and reviewy stuff. It's what makes your journal an interesting read. It's like a box of chocolates, to quote Forrest Gump. :)

Oh. Well. All right, then!
Thanks, and I'll try to keep the writing ... um ... mixed. Or chocolatey. Or whatever.

Just thought I'd drop you a little note (in case you were unaware) but I ordered your book over the weekend and Amazon.com says it is .. that's right.. BACKORDERED! (I should have it in two weeks, though!)

I came across a lady, [info]susanjacobson, that was a foster mom/adopter for a couple of cats, one Elmo and the other Scrunch, she set up LJ blogs for both cats.

When is Spain going to start posting in her own blog?

She used to have one. But then I remembered -- "Oh yeah. I've got real life stuff to do." So I deleted it.

Oh yes. She's back to her old self. Her tummy fuzz is even growing back; it's about a quarter of an inch long, and increasing every day, just in time for winter.

Yay, Spainyshark! Glad to see she's back to terrorising the monkeys. All is right with the world.

Oh, and re: books-- I actually picked up the new one Friday evening. Woe, for I read it in one sitting that night and now have no more to look forward to!!
Addison and Steele are Pining for the Fjords[info]cmpriest on October 3rd, 2007 10:20 pm (UTC)
Oh wow, thanks! And one sitting? It's not a hugely long door-stopper of a book, but still ... good gracious! Well, I hope you enjoyed it, and I'll um, keep writing ...
Beatriz[info]tattycat on October 4th, 2007 03:21 am (UTC)
Oh, man, I'm a terrible bibliovore. And I read fast. So yeah. I started at. . .11 p.m. and finished around 3 a.m. And then I had nightmares about THINGS IN TUNNELS.

So yeah, it was very successful :) And I quite enjoyed it. Thank you for writing.

ack the eyes
they burn with expressionism.

Got to love pretty cat eyes. Especially when they view you with some form of suspicion. In this case: "Is that string on your face and can I eat it?"

Eeeep! Watch out for that cat! It's gonna cuddle you!
The Squirrel Whisperer: camera[info]singingnettle on October 4th, 2007 02:24 am (UTC)
You are really getting great photos! It's inherently hard to get photos of black animals that don't look like black blobs, and getting clear photos indoors of black animals without flash is real wizardry!

It's really all about the lighting - and I don't just mean the ambient lighting, though good ambient lighting is a huge help, but you can vastly improve the definition on what would otherwise be vaguely pet-shaped fuzzy black silhouette by messing around with the light levels in a decent graphic editing program like GIMP or Photoshop.

Ahh, the wonders of digital photography.
The Squirrel Whisperer: camera[info]singingnettle on October 4th, 2007 12:09 pm (UTC)
Yes, I do a fair amount of that. :-) But there's just so much you can post-process if your base photo isn't good!
Addison and Steele are Pining for the Fjords[info]cmpriest on October 4th, 2007 04:15 pm (UTC)
Heh-- thanks. Really, it's just a matter of patience (re: taking a million shots and having one or two come out good), because heaven knows most of these pictures aren't very sharp or big.

I think it's just that she's got a lot of personality, and it rather shines through ;)
Rose Fox: editing[info]rosefox on October 4th, 2007 04:46 am (UTC)
The remaining 20% is mostly comprised of

By "comprised" I think you mean "composed".

Or, if you prefer, by "is mostly comprised of" I think you mean "mostly comprises".
Addison and Steele are Pining for the Fjords[info]cmpriest on October 4th, 2007 04:00 pm (UTC)
Aaaand ... this is what I meant the other day by never making typos/grammar mistakes in public once you've got a book out :)

Trust me, I also correct non-authors on this one. *) It's one of my big peeves.

Thought. (I only have the one today.)
I would love to see the Spainy calendar available someday...partly because she's just too personable for words, and partly because I think it's a fantastic idea to give back to the people who took such good care of her. With that in mind, I remember you wrote something awhile back about the image quality being too poor to "blow up" large enough for calendar pages. Maybe you wouldn't have to use the photos at such large sizes if you went with a different kind of layout. One of my favorite images of Spainy was one you posted last month I think titled "Dubious Cat senses Treachery". It had such a "haikuesque" feel to it...and I could see it written out in those ubiquitous magnetic poetry titles. Maybe doing something like this: http://www.flipdrive.com/file/54021b502b2ecf18fa778804daa9.jpg

would work? Just a thought, sometimes it's the caption as much as the photo that leaves me still laughing to myself the next day!
