This is the old Olympia Brewery building in Tumwater, Washington. I’ve been reading up on its woes, its uncertain state of ownership, the bickering over the water rights accompanying it, etcetera, etcetera. But what I’d really like to know is if there’s any safe, legal way for an enterprising young author to find her way inside.*

Oh, how sad to see the stately lady in disrepair.

Agreed, of course. But that doesn't change my burning desire to go poking around inside it. Nay, if anything it feeds the urge ...

Are there or aren't there Artesians?
Do you think one will ever be found?

My friend Tim goes by the LJ handle "tsob" ; he's an Olympia resident and knows a lot of interesting things and people - and might possibly be a good angle for knowing a person that knows a person...

You need an architect who specializes in renovating wrecks. Too bad I'm on the wrong coast...

(That looks a lot like the condition of either the Stephen King Memorial Laundry or the Pigeon Loft.)

When the movie rights to your books are optioned for a bazillion dollars, you can buy it and convert it into a gothy castle paradise!

Isn't it fabulous? I went to college in Olympia, and drove by this place many times. Never did manage to get in, though. I wish you luck with that. ^_^

I hope you can find a way to (legally) get in--that place looks awesome. 0.0

I got nuthin' toward your posted plea, but it's personally a little cool to see Tumwater get a shout out; my father grew up in that 'hood in the 20's-40's. Years ago we did the "You can never go home again" tour through the area, me driving, him rambling about what we were passing through/by. Very cool.

I figured Tumwater was one of those places that only existed because an elder had a, possibly fabricated, memory of it. I love places like that.

You and Aric should buy it.
Imagine all the books that would be born there...

Kinda has a Waverly Hills vibe to it. Hey, that's another place you got into *cough* legally.

To whet your appetite, I present the Illustrated History of the Olympia Brewery.

And you might want to try and contact these folks to see if you could possibly arrange a tour:
Miller Brewing Co.
100 Custer Way
Tumwater, Washington 98507
Phone: (360) 754-5000

Being an established author can move many mountains. Best of luck!

Miller Brewing only owns the brand not the building
In reading the Illustrated History of the Olympia Brewery it appears that Miller Brewing does not own the building.

But there are Photos from Exclusive Old Brewery Tour, (8/20/04) http://www.oldbrewhouse.org/

It also looks like the group trying to preserve the building has a video tour.

You may want to contact them about current ownership and scoping the place out as a possible site for a future book (under the respectable author doing research line) at http://www.oldbrewhouse.org/

Checking out the place...
My son would do it if he was there! There is a place of similar decrepitness in Staunton,VA. and he and his friend checked it out. He's in Boston till the 20/21 and then will be in LA. Looking for an apt. and a lucrative job. He's just graduating from Emerson. some of his stuff is interesting on youtube. If you are interested http://youtube.com/watch?v=3QTbL7ZnFQI
Anyway good luck on your purveying the building.
