No fiction writing done today, I’m afraid. I had other projects to eat my attention, but that’s just how it goes. Nonetheless, I’m pretty happy with my productivity. I’ve gotten a solid Draft Zero on one project, and finished Draft One on a second one. It took me all damn day, just about, but I’d rather get it right than rush it.

Last Night: Went to an Irish pub out in West Seattle with Aric, Ellen, and the lovely Maudelynn — who was kind enough to invite us out in the first place. Together, we were THE HELVETICA QUARTET. We successfully placed in the top three in three out of four rounds, but the MC got us on the “movie quotes” category. Last time I did the quiz (with Maudelynn alone) we ROCKED THAT MOFO. This time, strangely enough, we blew it like a birthday candle. Ah, well. There’s always next time.

Today: In addition to the freelancery, I got to go visit with Kat Richardson and serve as her personal Ferret Taxi. The divine Ms. Kat is leaving the country for a couple of weeks, and those ferrets needed some TLC from the boarding shelter at their vet’s place; so I was on the receiving end of some exceedingly cute ferret kisses before waving them goodbye. Afterwards, Kat and I did McDonald’s before calling it an afternoon. So bon voyage to you too, Kat! Take lots of pictures and collect lots of gossip and stories to share with Team Seattle upon your return!

And now, because I’ve been lax in this area lately, I give you Cat Blogging. Behold, my husband’s new desk. Behold, the feline who is strictly forbidden from going anywhere near it, for she’s been known to nibble exposed monitor and speaker cables.

Aric's new desk.

Eh. Whatchagonnado?

I'd get protectors for those cords. Thick, clear plastic tubing, in fact, and it can even come impregnated with citrus odor and taste, which most cats hate with a passion. :)

Oh, she doesn't really do it anymore -- otherwise we'd take actual precautions, and actually boot her off the table. Mostly she's fond of shoelaces, these days. And hair twisties. But he cords are safe.

Hrm. I wonder if there's a way to impregnate the laces and twisties with citrus too. Because I don't think she'd forgive you for having to shave her and put the collar on her again. ;P

We've had her for about six years. We've learned to either (a). keep all shoes and hair twisties out of reach or (b). use hair combs and buy shoes without laces.

:)

*grins.* I imagine so. She is the picture of smug mischief though. Pretty enough to get away with murder, and well aware of it. She makes me miss my ex's bundle of mischief, Linus.

It was only once! With my husband! It ... it didn't mean anything!

I still can't get over how much Spain looks like my Ferodir, except that going by your picture, she's got more of the chocolate brown mixed in with her fur than he does (that's him in my icon at 4 1/2 months old). Ferodir doesn't try to chew cords thank goodness, Arwen doesn't either, but Ferodir loves to rip up cardboard, my mail, and any paper he can get hold of.

Pretty Spain, perfect desktop accessory. :)

I wonder if cats (and dogs) can sense the flow of electrons through the wire.

It seems to be a fairly common thing for cats to do. Maybe the cable reminds them of mice tails. I don't know.

She knows how well she looks on the black desk by the black monitor and keyboard. Not that she's vain or anything.

I found that rubbing pepper sauce on cords makes them unappealing to my cord-biting feline.

Spainy sure has claimed that desk, though.

Cute picture of the lovely Ms. Spainy! Glad to see she still rules...
