Link Lovin’ Quick and Dirty

* Have you written a zombie novel? The inimitable Night Shade Books wants to hear from you, or at least, its proprietor Jeremy Lassen does. Click the link for details. Favorite post excerpt quote: “If you have a completed zombie novel, and it doesn’t suck …”

* I don’t appreciate the attempt to put a woman’s birth control choices in the hands of someone other than the woman concerned. There’s been a great deal of discussion re: the leaked memo and a certain politician’s quest to see birth control reclassified as abortion. We’ve got until September 30 to be heard. Go to Tamora Pierce’s journal for a collection of useful links on the subject.

* Anachronistic Victorian post-apocalyptic field nurse costume — not a joke. It’s coming together nicely, in fact. This afternoon I’m going to wander down the hill and make one last grab at thrifting my way to a more appropriate (plainer, long-sleeved) shirt to wear beneath the apron. I’m shooting for the “I just amputated a soldier’s arm with a hacksaw, then I delivered a baby and fought my way through a horde of zombies, punk, so what’ve you done today?” vibe.

* Geek Ink. Comics fans show off tattoos; some are better than others, most are quite impressive. I’m all about embracing it and permanently displaying it, baby.

"...and fought my way through a horde of zombies, punk..."

When I did my zombie hunter costume, I took a 4x4 gauze and folded it in half, and bit down on it (pretty far back to get a good impression). I then took a brown sharpie and marked where the bite impression was. Tape to arm with sharpie on the underside (dried blood bleeding through), instant zombie bite.

I'd still like to see what TSA would say about a vintage rib spreader. There's a reality show in there somewhere.

That's cool :)
But yeah -- I'm trying to keep it TSA-friendly; I'm already worried about them opening the carry-on and seeing the "blood"-stained stuff ...

I filled out the MoveOn.org petition and added my two cents.

I really think if they clarified the text to not include birth control, most people would accept the bill. Hope that's what happens.

I haven't written a zombie novel, but I might just have to, now. :)

I think the short-sleeved shirt you already have is perfect! Wouldn't a busy nurse prefer short sleeves with long gloves for convenience of washing? You just need opera length rubber gloves, it would also add a very creepy element. ;)

I have elbow-length blue rubber gloves, but only the regular sized white ones.

*sigh*

Well, I'm sure you could find black ones on eBay, white might be difficult to find.

Add in that paramedics in some areas can refuse treatment/transportation if they think the patient may end up receiving an abortion--even if she's laying on the stretcher dying of an ectopic pregnancy.

I await the first case where someone was refused treatment because the doc or staff knew they were pro-choice and, well, that's a violation of their conscience...

Love the costume!

I like the aviatrix goggles best.
